  2. After looking at the art show, I think every piece was interesting and creative, especially the piece called "L-AMP" by Avika. I found this piece very unique and it was the first piece to catch my eye when I walked in. I like how the artist had magazine cutouts on the side of the cylinder body and how there were many colorful leaf-like things inside it. I would like to ask Avika what gave her the inspiration to this piece and why you chose this kind of media.

  3. I thought this art show was put together very well. The abstract and uniqueness of the pieces made the show alot more interesting and exciting. I really like Becca's piece-especially the piece called 'Lolita'. I think the piece looked very calm and pretty but it gave a mysterious look or thought when it first caught my eye. The design in front of the art was very interesting and the design look olden-day Thai or South-East Asian design. This contrast with the look of the design on the piece of glass. It was very abstract and egyptian. This made it very interesting because it made the piece become the "unification" of different cultures or designs/aspects throughout the world.
What was your inspiration for this piece?

  4. The piece I liked was Masks of Mardi Gras by Devika. I really liked the use of color and the texture. The masks seemed to be more abstract than normally and this influenced me because I was already planning to following the colorful, abstract, and textured style. I also like the placements of the masks because there is negative space on the bottom and right side. Overall, I really like this painting because of the colors, texture, and brush strokes or wall putty, if that is what was used.

  5. The ib art show was spectacular. I really like the piece "mysticity" because of how the piece tells a story. A question I would like to ask is what theme/message are you trying to have the viewers perceive?

  6. Every art piece in the IB art show is really interesting. I really like the piece "Modernization?" because the artist use a very interesting media- the ice cream stick to create her art work. This media make the art become more interesting. The work is very colorful. She create a very depressing mood in the background; but yet, in the same time, she create a very happy mood with the variety of color she used. Question: What is your idea behind this piece?

  7. Adding to my previous comment, i think the piece puts a lot of contrast between happiness and sadness from the color used and the objects at both ends of the piece. For me, this piece puts me in a really mystified mood and that is why this piece interests me. I also liked how you combined 3 panels and used second grade art to express your message in the piece.

  8. The piece i like was the Buddha by Becca Boulton. I thought the unity of color worked well with the position of the Buddha. Also the color made the piece show the purpose very well. I found it very interesting how by putting the Buddha more to the left it changed the whole perspective of the painting. The painting technique you used made the painting stand out even more.

  9. One of my favorite piece was "The Role Model" by Sam. I liked that the piece portrayed the irony of society in a clear manner without overdoing or overworking the art, the concept was successfully delivered with the help of contrast of colors and simplicity.

It was refreshing to see that a piece can appear simple yet reveal a bigger, more complex message. "The Role Model" reminded me of Banksy's street art, which is a style I find very interesting.

  10. I really enjoyed the art show. I thought all the pieces were very interesting and creative. The piece i liked most was True Colors by Becca. I thought it was a great piece. I loved the colors and it was beautifully painted. I thought this piece was unique because the majority of the canvas was black and then the bight colors in the corner. Overall, I really liked the piece because of the colors.
What was the message you wanted he viewers to get from the piece?

  11. I enjoyed Avika Sinchawla's piece, "Harmony".
The series of three different art pieces - united by same shades of colors and lines- as a series gave it depth and beauty. The artist's use of UHU glue as the bubbly effect on the bottom of the last canvas was very interesting and creative.
The mood created was very relaxing and calm, making me feel peaceful looking at it and bringing a sense of harmony into my mind, hence the title.
I would like to know what exactly inspired/influenced the artist in this work. My guess was the little moments of beauty that she comes across in everyday life, considering the blurry highway she illustrated in the second canvas. I would also like to know how this connects to her theme of "music"?

  12. All pieces in the IB Art show are very creative and well-drawn. Among those good pieces, I especially loved two pieces called "Memory I" and "Memory II" by Aleksandra Konard. At the first time I saw it, I did not have much interest since most colors that were used in the pieces are really dark and not really eye catching. But at the second time, I got interested because of the title. I want to know what the artist try to tell to the audience about her memory in those pieces. Is she saying that her memory has been gloomy or sad? Thank You :)

  13. The IB Art show was extremely interesting because every piece had a different theme making it very unique. After reading what the Artist had to say about their pieces it was easier to understand the message coming across. I personally really liked "Mentally Enslaved". the colors really got my attention and the emphasis of the word respect in many different ways and places made it like no piece I have ever seen. It was also one of the only sculpture like pieces in the who Art show which made it stand out.

  14. The IB Art Show displays many astonishing pieces. I was amused by one piece in particular, it was called "Lolita". The artist Becca Boulton, had used a very unique technique of painting symbols on glass, and she glued mosaic tiles on the glass creating a smoke-like shape, that was flowing through the piece. But from analyzing this art piece, I wondered how the title of the piece "Lolita", connected to the piece. Because since the word Lolita means an attractive young girl, it was unable to find a connection between the art piece and the title, and what it represents.

  15. To: Sam Simpson-Rowswell

After visiting the IB art show, the piece that caught my attention was "Trapped" by Sam Simpson-Rowswell Media: Water Color. This piece is a very creative art, despite the fact that it looks like it have been drawn randomly while you're bored in history class. This piece doesn't look grand as I expect for IB work. But it also creates a different perspective by making the world looks more imaginative. I think that the dominant technique is "space", the third hand creates an illusion that there is one on the boy's shoulder, even though it's not coming out from the side. I think that this piece tries to show how strict parents are toward kids, the hand n the top right has a "mute" sign which symbolizes non-freedom of speech, what mostly occurs from kids toward parents. I really want to know was this drawn randomly or it was plan out?

  16. All the pieces in the art show were great. Every piece had a different theme and each artist had a different sense of style, this made the art show even more eye attracting. It was very hard trying to stare at one piece for a while because each of the pieces had its focal point calling your name. I really enjoyed studying and analyzing Sam S. R.'s work. Especially the piece "The Role Model", I liked how it was so simple but it could also be very complex in its ideas. I also like how its a little girl not just some teenage kid. My question to Sam would be... In the end why did you choose to do Street art?

  17. I really liked the piece called "Grimm Misunderstanding", because of the sense of foreboding, and the fact that it uses the fairytale Little Red Ridinghood, which I liked when I was a kid. I like the twist in the fairytale and the implied idea that the wolf didn't drown after all. When I actually red Sam's own comments about his artwork for IB, I got a whole different perspective on the theme of the piece.

  18. All the pieces that I saw in the art show was so fascinating to me. I was astonished by a few certain pieces, including the pieces that Rebecca Boulton did. She inspired me deeply with her meaningful art piece with the motorcycles. I wanted to do art similar to hers, so i see her as an art ole model. The unique pieces show great sense of real life experiences and full of personal myteries. Therefore, that is why they inspire me so deeply.

  19. One of the pieces in the IB artshow that I found was really intriguing was “Harmony: Mosaic of a Day”, I loved the pastel colors of the sky and how the artist utilized mixed media to add a touch of mystery and uniqueness to her piece. At first glance I assumed the ‘splashes’ of mosaic and liquid glue used as mixed media were depicting a temple scene, but with a closer look it appears to be something else.. bubbles trapped in glue? My question to the artist is, what were you trying to depict with the mixed media that you added to the print? And how does it contribute to the title?
I really liked this piece because the colors were really harmonized, and made it easy to the eye, and I love the subject matter because the artist really did use a simple, everyday life scene (possibly Bangkok highway) to create something out of it as she said she was trying to do in her artist message.

  20. During m visit to the IB art show I enjoyed all the pieces, but I especially enjoyed Aleksandra’s "Memories I" piece. All the different painting techniques and textures used in the piece definitely made me think about the message of the piece. Looking at the all the colors and techniques mixed together into one made me think of different memories and experiences that has occurred into my life. The piece its self reminded me of a tye dye like design. How did you come about creating this piece and how to present it?

  21. I really like Becca's piece "Summer." The dark blue color and the light pale yellow created really good contrast. I especially love the crispness of the line that separated the two colors. I like how the branch of the flowers kind of flowed through the entire piece, guiding my eyes to absorb the rest of the painting. Also, the contrast between smooth texture of the dark side, and the rough texture of the light side really highlighted the difference and uniqueness between both sides. Everything just contrasted each other, yet the painting gives a sense of unification.

  22. This IB art show was really helpful for me to see as I now can really understand the whole process of IB art and how one must display and present their work. It's exciting to know that before I know it, I'll be doing the same thing! There were so many great and intruiging art pieces to me however, I felt that Sam's piece (which I cannot remember the exact name of!) which depicte little figures with a background all made from collaged images. To me the piece really because of its boldness in presentation; where icons and and people who are supposed to be 'legends and role models' were collaged with vulgar mismatched bodies and thus looked like crazed animals. Not exactly the people we 'supposedly' look up to. This was a great and onnivative concept. In addition, I like the colour and media choice. The colours which were grey tones of stones in the background allowed the foreground of little figures of these 'people' to really stand out. Furthermore, his choice of media, collage, is interesting to me as I have done some collage work in my peices as well. The way he has collaged images of the 'inexpected' together and was able to blend everything cohesively together both visually and conceptually has made me think about my own collage work which is although based on a different concept, fashion, is used for a similar effect.

  23. IB art show was amazing. When we (yea1 class) vissited and heleped them to practice exam, I learned so much from their exaplanation on theri works. Not only they talked about the visual aspect of the piece, but also the deep meaning and personal importance behinde it. Listening to their thoughts behind art pieces helped to truly understand their values in art. I especially liked one of Aleksandra's work, which I dont remember the name. It was mixed media on canvas depicting a religious figure in Lebanon. She painted five of them diagoally and used mixed media for their hats. This work was very interesting because it was so simple, but included deep message. She explained the various religion living together in Lebanon. I would like to use some of her technique in my works.

  24. The IB art show included quality pieces that were both inspiring and interesting for me as an IB year 1 artist. By helping the IB 2s practice their exams, I understood a lot of what to be expected of me next year and I feel more prepared already. The art show itself reflected a lot of the artists, and I value how personal the art should be to the artist and how they should connect. For example, Devika's pieces reflects Devika's character very well and the way she calmly presents it also enhances the fairytale-like work. Avika pieces about different genres of music also characterizes her well, and it is evident that she specializes in mixed media and clay. Sam's pieces are very interesting to me because his works are more simple and less abstract, but they look very professionally done and presents a lot of meaning behind them.

  25. The IB artshow was both very interesting and helpful. It was really good to be able to get an introduction on what is going to be happening next year. It was also really good to listen to IB2s explain about their work process, how they develop their concepts, and how it all turns out in the end. I realize the importance of being able to explain your artwork really well because it really enhances the meaning of your work and lets other people see how they connect to you personally. For example, Devika was deeply influenced by her Indian culture and it was interesting to see Indian influence seep through her work. It was also interesting to see each artists' distinctive style, such as Avika's mixed media, urban style. Overall, the IB art show was inspiring and useful in helping me see what to aim for next year.

  26. The IB show was well done and very interesting. I loved how the show was put together and put up, letting the viewer see each artist. I also enjoyed how each artist focused on a specific theme or idea and expresssed it in various unique ways. One of my favorite pieces was by Avika named "Harmony." This piece was so interesting and significant especially the focus of the piece where the tow lines meet in teh center. I also enjoyed her use of color and how she blended them to make the background, its not plain but it doesnt distract from the main focus. It was a great show.

  27. I thought the IB art show was very inspirational. To understand that this is how it is going to be like during the second year of IB Art. To see what I am trying to work towards. I enjoyed most of the works of the artists that i had the chance to do the mock exam with as it is explained to me of their process and overcoming difficulties. I realized that passion is a big part of this course through Avika's work. I could clearly see her passion towards music and expressing it through art. She not only experiments with many techniques but also has a clear focus and artist of influence. She applies it to her work and comes up with art of unity yet with such diversity.

    Bonny

  28. The IB art show was amazing as once I walked in. Each artist has their own unique style and had their own theme. There were some pieces in particular that really caught my attention for example Sam's piece with spray painted motorcycles was the most original one there. I came out of this show realizing that art is not always done on paper or canvas but can on other objects as well for example Avika's piece on the floor. Overall the art show was great and has inspired me to take this course next year.
